I watch Avatar: The Last Airbender with my son a lot. In fact we have the last season dvd.

It’s based on Asian culture and I believe buddhism. Everyone is obviously Oriental and I believe the Fire Nation is more Mongolian. Which makes the show cool. And it’s pretty cool. It’s an alright show with a very good story and excellent morals.

But, when I saw the previews everyone was a cracker! That’s a white country boy, if you don’t know.

I think this ruined the entire story. One thing that was great about Avatar was it stayed true to the culture it represented. But, since Hollywood turns it into another whitey saves the world campaign. I seriously doubt I’m going to take my son to see it. It just seems way too fake now. In fact he chose Karate Kid over Avatar, which is odd since he watches Avatar 24×7.

You can visit Racebending if you feel really hurt about this. I’m not extremely upset, because I didn’t expect much, seeing the director has a habit of ruining movies. But, the nostalgia of the movie is completely gone. I’m sure it will do well, but the movie is ruined. I won’t be seeing it.

If you can convey your thoughts about this intelligently and your not going to advertise race propoganda then comment. I’d like to hear about it.

Nick

So I went through the horrible agony of figuring this out. The examples while showing info, didn’t really accomplish what I needed.

I wanted to show a custom circle at each DataPoint.

So here’s the Post Paint event to draw them

public const int DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE = 8;

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Chart1.PostPaint += new EventHandler(Chart1_PostPaint);
}

        void Chart1_PostPaint(object sender, ChartPaintEventArgs e)
{
if (e.ChartElement is Series)
{
Series currentSeries = e.ChartElement as Series;

                if (currentSeries != null && currentSeries.Name == "Total Savings")
{
// Get Graphics object from chart
Graphics graph = e.ChartGraphics.Graphics;
int index = 1;

                    foreach( DataPoint dataPoint in currentSeries.Points )
{
float pixelYMax = (float)e.ChartGraphics.GetPositionFromAxis("Default", AxisName.Y, dataPoint.YValues[0]);
float pixelXMax = (float)e.ChartGraphics.GetPositionFromAxis("Default", AxisName.X, index++);

                        PointF point1 = PointF.Empty;
PointF point2 = PointF.Empty;

                        // Set Maximum and minimum points
point1.X = pixelXMax;
point1.Y = pixelYMax;

                        point1 = e.ChartGraphics.GetAbsolutePoint(point1);
SolidBrush solidBrush = new SolidBrush(Color.FromArgb(249, 186,37));
graph.FillEllipse(solidBrush, new Rectangle((int)point1.X - (DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE / 2), (int)point1.Y - (DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE / 2), DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE, DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE));
graph.DrawEllipse(new Pen(Color.FromArgb(218, 143, 63)), new Rectangle((int)point1.X - (DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE / 2), (int)point1.Y - (DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE / 2), DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE, DEFAULT_ELLIPSE_SIZE));

                    }

                }
}
}

I iterate through each data point and draw it. Pretty basic. Works in Dundas too. Good luck getting an answer in thier forums. I went from Dundas to MSChart fast because of the lack of easy forum questions being answered.

Hope this helps,
Nick

One problem I had is that a button in Outlook using the input element is stripped by outlook is most enterprise companies. Damn admins!

So I was able to style my anchor to look just like a button

Style is:

            a {
outline: 0;
margin: 0 2px -2px 0;
padding: 0 1em;
height: 1.4em;
text-decoration: none ;
cursor: pointer;
position: relative;
text-align: center;
top: 0px;
left: 0px;
width: 39px;
background-color: #CCCDFF;
border: 1px solid #210FC4;
color: #000000;
font-family: Verdana;
padding: 1px 10px 2px 10px;
}

Anchor ( without GreaterThan / LessThan so it appears ):

< a href="http://www.google.com" > My Anchor too google </a>

Note: the width can probably be left out.

This is for anyone wandering

I have Windows 7 64 bit, SharePoint 2007 64 bit, and VS2008 SP1 installed.

I try to create a “SharePoint 2007 Sequential Workflow”. Microsoft tells me to install a 32 bit OS. Jerks.

You can do it using a WSP Builder.

They really need to get it together on SharePoint. First they require we program on a VM mode. But with 2007 that is avoidable.

Next they tell us their ready fro 64 bit and go with it.

They make devs wait a year to get extensions for 64 bit.

They they say if you want a workflow forget it, we don’t care. If you really want it, install a new OS!

I hear the WSP Builder allows a way around it.

I’ve seen a lot of people asking about date ranges in SSRS. I’ve also seen all kinds of creative ways by adding functions and all kinds of kookie ways to accomplish the tasks.

But, there’s no need for all these hoops when you can just make it inside your where clause like so.

And the actual where clause:

AND (
( @ParamFromDate IS NULL AND @ParamToDate IS NULL)
OR
(CreatedDate > DateAdd(day, -1,@ParamFromDate) AND CreatedDate  DateAdd(day, -1,@ParamFromDate) AND  @ParamToDate IS NULL )
OR
( @ParamFromDate IS NULL AND CreatedDate <  DateAdd(day, 1, @ParamToDate))
)

And there you go. I encapuslated the where clause in it’s own set of paranethesis, so I can add multiple date ranges with paste and I set the Params to Nullable date types.

This allows the following type of customization:
1) Leave both date params blank to see all items in any date range
2) Leave the ending date null to see all items after a starting date
3) Leave the starting date null to see all items before an ending date
4) populate both dates to see items between the starting and ending date

And walla no extra functions to make the report unmaintainable, no extra groups sorts, and just a little clause which is pretty easy to figure out if you know TSQL

Hope this helps,
Nick

I wanted a way to create the MailMessage using an ASPX page to dynamically populate information and Data Controls. I didn’t want tons of ugly StringBuilder commands and I wanted to control it by css. ( CSS must be inside a style block of the header. It’s preferred to call the body xbody for hotmail users. If you like inline style ignore this post because doing that is just atrocious )

First I query the page, save the html, and add it to the MailMessage

To create the html

// Build the Url(URI)
string host = Request.Url.Authority;
string path = "http://" + host + "/Drafts/NotifyCustomerEmailMessage.aspx?id=" + CurrentSessionEventId.ToString();
UriBuilder uri = new UriBuilder(path);

// Build Call
HttpWebRequest webRequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(uri.Uri);
webRequest.Method = “GET”;
webRequest.ContentType = “text/xml; encoding=’utf-8′”;
webRequest.UseDefaultCredentials = true;

//Get Response
HttpWebResponse webResponse = (HttpWebResponse)webRequest.GetResponse();

Stream stream = webResponse.GetResponseStream();
StreamReader streamReader = new System.IO.StreamReader(stream);
string html = streamReader.ReadToEnd();

Now create the mail message

MailMessage mailMessage = new MailMessage(employee.EmailAddress, savings.Email);

mailMessage.Subject = “Report for your review”;

mailMessage.IsBodyHtml = true;
mailMessage.Body = html;

SMTPManager.SendMail(mailMessage);

and to show what the aspx page looks like

Document Savings Event: <%= EventName %>

Dear <%= EventContactFullName %>,

I have submitted a new documented cost savings event entitled ‘<%= EventName %>’ for your review.

Thank you and have a great day!,
<%= EmployeeName %>

Attached is Event Report for your review. After reviewing, please %<a href=”<%= GetApproveLink %>”%&gr;Accept or Deny the report.

So the First section does a call to request the page and returns a byte Stream. We then convert that to a string of html and set the MessageBody. Then we send it.

Walla were done and we can create aspx web pages to insert DataLists, repeaters, and the like to make Emails that need to have a lot on Business data included.

Can’t get the page to show clearly, but you get the point. Accept and Deny are actual Anchors to forward the user to thier respective Customer Web Site.

To create a report programmatically is actually quite easy.

Here is the example

You will need the ReportViewer.WebForms.dll referenced

// setup report variables
string deviceInfo = null;
string extension = String.Empty;
string mimeType = String.Empty;
string encoding = String.Empty;
Warning[] warnings = null;
string[] streamIDs = null;
string historyId = null;

// Create a Report Execution object
ReportExecutionService rsExec = new ReportExecutionService();
rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
rsExec.Url = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ReportServer"] + "/ReportExecution2005.asmx";

// Load the report
rsExec.LoadReport("/ReportMainFolder/ReportName", historyId);

// pass parameters
rsExec.SetExecutionParameters(
new ParameterValue[]
{new ParameterValue() {Name = "ParamEvent", Value = "MyValue"}},null);

// get pdf of report
Byte[] results = rsExec.Render("PDF", deviceInfo,
out extension, out encoding,
out mimeType, out warnings, out streamIDs);

Walla...almost no code, it's easy to manage and your done.

Take the bytes and add as an attachment to a MailMessage(SMTP):
mailMessage.Attachments.Add(new Attachment(new MemoryStream(attachment),String.Format("{0}_DocumentSavingsReport.pdf", "ReportName") ));

or
Response.Write(result);

Hope this helps,
Nick

Getting this project running was an absolute nightmare.

It had multiple code versions and it even had old 2003 code and dll links. I have to buy rogaine to put back the hair I pulled out!

I tried loading the web site in multiple versions and never worked ( 2003,2005,2008 ). It turns out the developer when migrating to a new version simple looked for errors and did not actually update the code. He took out all namespaces and put everything in a root directory and deleted the AppCode folder and it didn’t have a designer file.

I tried creating a new page for each and didn’t work. Partly because I was just pasting the html and expecting the designer to update.

To add there was multiple versions on the PC and no one really knew where the actual code base was located.

I found this blog post by Scott Scott Gu’s blog post

So heres how I finally fixed it, thanks to Scott’s blog.

1) Found a supposedly correct code base
2) Added the code base to a temp folder
3) Created an entirely new web project
4) Added manually all of the files to the web project
5) deleted all of the designer files
6) deleted all of the designer code in the code behinds. He had web page variable declarations within the designer vb codebehind file, so it was annoying
7) closed all files
8 ) right clicked each page and chose “Convert to Web Application”
9 ) right clicked again and chose “View Designer”
10 ) I fixed some control registers and namespaces
And I finally got the web site to come up and it appears to be working. Only time will tell.

Hope this helps if your stuck. I must have tried 5 different fixes before this one worked.

Putting this in Tortoise SVN right away!
